Just about every single year during spring camp, there’s always one or two minor league additions who find their way onto the big league fields and catch the eyes of curious fans. For the Dodgers in 2017, outfielder Henry Ramos is one of those players, and based on his usage early on, may see significant time during Cactus League play over the coming weeks.
Five weeks is a whole lot of time. But even though there’s still more than a month of Cactus League play to help the management crew of the Dodgers answer questions about the club’s prospective 25-man roster, early revelations in camp may be indicating the current pattern of thinking when it comes to the team’s starting pitching hierarchy.

According to several different media outlets on Tuesday morning, former Dodgers‘ reliever Joe Blanton has agreed to terms with the Nationals for a reported $4 million over one season. As specified by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the contract also includes potential performance bonuses which could total up to $1 million.

The Dodgers are undefeated so far in spring training. Who cares if there’s only been two games? Yesterday’s game was a wild affair, where the Dodgers allowed the Milwaukee Brewers to score seven unanswered runs and still won the game 10-8. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, the second game of spring training doesn’t really mean much. But let’s take a look at what does.
At first glance, there no question that the prospective 25-man Opening Day squad of the Dodgers could easily considered among the best in baseball. Yet after breaking down all the areas of the roster, the bullpen may be one of those areas which could use a slight upgrade, and veteran reliever Joe Blanton just may be the guy who fits the bill.
