“I think if you ask anyone on this team, they’ll tell you that we’ve really sucked on the offensive side”. Max Muncy, summing up what has gone on with the Los Angeles Dodgers over the last month.
Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day to all you Los Angeles Dodgers fans out there. We find ourselves one game out of first in the NL West, after yet another frustrating series against the San Francisco Giants.
Well, well , well. Perhaps the Los Angeles Dodgers have been reading my blog, took to heart that they are frustrating, and decided to take it out on the Atlanta Braves.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have seemingly shifted into the next gear in the month of August, and at the right time to do so. So far they are 12-3 this month, and have gained two games on the first place San Francisco Giants in the NL West.
The topic of Kenley Jansen effectively closing games is not foreign to fans of the Dodgers. Jansen’s inconsistencies on the mound began during the 2018 season, the same year he underwent a second surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat. Whether it was the result of his heart, his age, too much mileage on his arm, or something psychological, the 33-year-old Jansen’s overall performance hasn’t been the same since.
The Los Angeles Dodgers maybe, finally, are starting to hit their stride. On their east coast road trip, they won five of six, including a weekend sweep of the New York Mets.
While it seems much longer, the last time Trevor Bauer pitched for the Dodgers was June 28 against the Giants in Los Angeles. Having gone six full innings and surrendering two runs, Bauer wasn’t fantastic by his typical standards, but he threw well enough to earn his team the victory. When MLB closed for the day, the Dodgers found themselves with a 48-31 record, trailing San Francisco by 2-1/2 games in the NL West division.
The Dodgers took two out of three games from the red hot Phillies, but it still was not enough to gain any ground in their quest for the National League West division lead. Currently, Los Angeles sits five games back from the first-place Giants.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are currently halfway through a six game, East Coast road trip. After winning two of three in Philadelphia, the Dodgers now head up I-95 to New York to take on the Mets.
