At the beginning of the season, I, and I would venture many other fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, didn’t think this team would amount to what we have been previously accustomed.
So many fan favorites moved on over the past two seasons, like Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner. Sure Cody had a down season last year, but look what’s he’s accomplishing in Chicago. JT also is producing in his new home to Boston.

The Los Angeles Dodgers used a balanced attack of timely hitting and decent pitching on Sunday to defeat the Colorado Rockies 8-3, securing the series sweep and maintaining a healthy 8-1/2 game lead over the second place San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been cruising along as of late, winning five of their last six, all against NL West.
Along the way, the have opened a six game lead in the division. Taking three of four from the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers have effectively buried the team to the south, who are 13 games back. They also took both games in Arizona, and the Diamondbacks now find themselves 11 games out of first.

After showing a little life with a win in Saturday’s middle game, the Los Angeles Dodgers had absolutely nothing to offer the Cincinnati Reds in Sunday’s finale, falling 9-0 and losing the series two games to one.
The victory moved the Reds into first place in a highly competitive NL Central, while the Dodgers still hold a slim lead over division rival San Francisco for top spot in the NL West.

If you would have asked most fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers if they would have been happy with a 6-3 record before the last road trip began, the answer would have probably been a resounding “yes.” And, although there are still some apparent weaknesses the club might address at the upcoming trade deadline, it’s certainly a good sign that Los Angeles was able to flex its muscles against a few of the league’s best squads, like the Orioles and the Rangers.

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers looked sharp in the first two games coming back from the All-Star break against the New York Mets, they couldn’t seal the deal in the finale on Sunday. The bats slowed down after running into old friend Max Scherzer, and the team eventually fell in extras, 2-1.
Over the next few weeks, the summer trade deadline will dominate most of the baseball blogosphere. We’ve been talking a lot about it here, but it’s still tough to say whether Los Angeles will make any significant moves because of the organization’s reluctance to trade away any high-level talent.

When most fans typically digest the first half of an MLB season, it takes them a while to analyze all the components that landed their favorite team at whatever spot in the standings. With the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers, though, you can quickly boil the first half down to two factors — injuries and underperformance.
As long as we can remember — in the non-Frank McCourt days, anyway — the Dodgers have been among the Top 5 MLB clubs in payroll. However, aside from the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, none of those costly investments resulted in a World Championship. Regardless, at the 89-game mark of the 2023 campaign, the Dodgers have a 51-38 reco0rd and are tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West.

In the past few weeks, Los Angeles Dodgers have seen their standing in the NL West to go from first place to third. The bullpen was scuffing, if not full on imploding, almost every night. They suffered a humiliating 15–0 loss to the San Francisco Giants at home, ultimately getting swept by their rivals.

Losing streaks happen — sometimes even long, horrific ones. But when a team clinches a playoff spot 10 straight seasons and has essentially controlled the National League West for a decade, fans begin getting impatient and overly frustrated when a club is at its worst.
There are so many things to digest about the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers, and we’re not even at the halfway point of the season. Obviously, injuries have been a critical part in the way the season has played out so far, from Julio Urias’s hamstring issue and Dustin May’s elbow to Gavin Lux’s ACL injury to Max Muncy’s latest stint on the injured list.

The Los Angeles Dodgers made several roster moves ahead of the series against the San Francisco Giants on Friday, including recalling infielder Michael Busch and selecting the the contract of pitching prospect Emmet Sheehan. To make room on the active roster, the team option pitcher Michael Grove back to Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Max Muncy on the injured list with a hamstring strain, retroactive to June 13.
The 23-year-old Sheehan will make his first MLB start Friday evening against the Giants. The right-hander was 4-1 with a 1.86 ERA and 88 strikeouts so far this year in 12 starts for Double-A Tulsa. He led the Texas League in ERA, strikeouts, batting average against (.131) and WHIP (0.88). Last season, he split the season between High-A Great Lakes and Double-A Tulsa, going a combined 7-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 106 strikeouts.
