Those who follow the farm system of the Dodgers closely will know that there are very few players who paid more dues and are more deserving of success than starting pitcher Scott Barlow. After being named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for June 5-11, the Connecticut-born righty finally earned a promotion to Oklahoma City, and in his first Triple-A start of 2017 last Monday, held the Memphis Redbirds scoreless through six innings en route to the victory.

While it remains to be seen exactly how much animosity carries over into the middle game of the weekend series, all eyes will be on Dave Roberts of the Dodgers and Andy Green of the Padres after a bench-clearing skirmish saw both skippers ejected early in Friday night’s opener.

Fans of the Dodgers breathed a sigh of relief earlier this week as Corey Seager‘s injury was not quite as bad as it could have been, allowing the shortstop to avoid the disabled list. Seager returned to the lineup Thursday night in Anaheim and went 0-for-4. He was replaced in the sixth inning by Enrique Hernandez to give him a rest. It was a week ago when Seager first felt tightness in his hamstring after a swing, and he exited that game after two innings. He spent this week testing his hamstring on and off the field, and was said to be available off the bench, although he was never used. Before the injury, he was sporting a .329/.433/.605 slash line with six doubles and five home runs in June alone.

Even if the Dodgers don’t make a huge splash before next month’s non-waiver trade deadline, the club’s 40-man roster may take on a bit of a different look before the big league 25-man rosters expand in early September.

When the Dodgers are faced with the task of replacing lefty pitcher Julio Urias on the 40-man roster sometime in the very near future, the club will have many worthy candidates from which to select, but considering the big league squad’s immediate needs and the players who appear to be most ready, reliever Joe Broussard could be the obvious choice.

Player Depth Propels Dodgers During Historic Run

Yesterday on Twitter, I joked that maybe I would just write a column today based on all the insane stats these 2017 Dodgers have piled up. That in itself would be a pretty awesome piece. Heck, I could just fill a piece on Cody Bellinger stats alone and it would be an unbelievable and intriguing read.
