After Saturday evening’s come-from-behind, walk-off victory against the Phillies, many who are close to the Dodgers, including skipper Dave Roberts himself, believe that the monumental win has potentially infused a bit of momentum, and conceivably could be the one contest that may spearhead a new direction for the squad.

Dodgers Prospects: A Quick Conversation with Shea Spitzbarth

game2

Looking across the entire length of the Dodgers‘ farm system, it’s very difficult to find a consistently effective reliever, especially one at the lower levels of the organization. In spite of that, one golden arm which is already beginning to pay dividends is that of Shea Spitzbarth. During 2017 spring training, the 22-year-old native of Staten Island raised many eyebrows with his fine performances over the course of Cactus League play. So far during the regular season, the young righty has already amassed five saves for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga while posting a 0.96 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 9-1/3 innings of work.

There’s always some sort of negative fallout from a frustrating divisional loss, especially one against the rival Giants. In the latest episode of a three week long stage loaded with mediocrity, Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts pulled Alex Wood after having allowed only two base runners through seven sparkling frames. Wood’s pitch count stood at only 77, yet Roberts opted instead to utilize frisbee-throwing righty Sergio Romo, who would ultimately surrender two runs en route to a 4-3 defeat in 10 innings.

While most pieces of the bullpen have shown flashes of brilliance during the young 2017 campaign, Friday evening’s implosion against the Diamondbacks left many fans of the Dodgers wondering if the relief corps has the structural integrity to hold up over the long haul, or if the front office crew will feel the need to go shopping for a few upgrades before the trade deadline arrives in July.
