It’s nice to know that when you take a vacation, and don’t have much service, that if you are a Dodgers fan, you can come back to find them exactly in the same position that you left them in — well in command of the NL West, the NL, and all of the majors, for that matter.

Remember April? That 10-12 record the Dodgers owned? Yeah, about that. At this point, that month was just a blip on the radar. A slow start for the Engine that Could, and an Engine that now that it has gotten going, seems difficult to stop.

Fans of the Dodgers were set to go nuts if the front office didn’t come though for them at the trade deadline, getting them another starting pitcher to help Clayton Kershaw and Company in the playoffs. But low and behold, seemingly at the last minute, they did, trading three prospects to the Texas Rangers for right handed pitcher Yu Darvish.

Dodgers Look to Maintain Momentum Regardless of What Happens at Deadline

At this point, really, is it any surprise? Sure, the Giants are a gazillion games behind the Dodgers, a season best left forgotten. But still, this is the hated Dodgers these Giants are facing, and LA has already won the first two games. Madison Bumgarner is moved up specifically to start this game. And he pitched incredibly well, going seven innings and allowing only five hits, no runs, one walk, and striking out seven against one of the best offenses in the major leagues. But at the end, that didn’t matter.

Although we don’t yet know who the Dodgers will ultimately end up acquiring at the non-waiver trade deadline, it’s seems as though the Justin Verlander talks have cooled down, as it appears that the Los Angeles front office is more interested in acquiring Sonny Gray or Yu Darvish.

Well, I suppose it had to happen at some point — the Los Angeles Dodgers actually lost a game. It seems like it has been forever since that has happened. In fact, it had been — 11 games, an All-Star break and one off-day ago. One would believe they’ll start on a new winning streak soon enough.

The Dodgers are heading into Chicago to face the White Sox for a two game set while riding a nine game winning streak, and Clayton Kershaw will make his first start of the second half. Will the Dodgers ever lose again? It’s quite the popular rhetorical question on social media these days. The answer, of course, is yes. Teams do not win every game that they play. But the way this team is clicking, all things just seem to keep falling into place.

And so the second half, and the trade cycle, of the 2017 season begins. The Chicago Cubs kicked it off with a trade with their cross city partners, acquiring Jose Quintana from the White Sox for two of their top prospects, plus one other. Quintana had been on the Dodgers‘ radar for the last season and a half. The reigning World Series champs obviously felt they needed to jump to rush to acquire who they thought could help their team.
