Although it probably felt as if the search for a second baseman lost all momentum when talks surrounding Brian Dozier eventually fizzled, the front office crew of the Dodgers is outwardly busier than ever, considering all conceivable options as the countdown to spring camp now stands at a mere 25 days.

Daydream Believer: Which Player Would You Most Like to See on the Dodgers?

“You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed
Now you know how happy I can be
Oh, our good time starts and ends
Without all I want to spend
But how much, baby, do we really need?”

As there are still a few whispers regarding possible relief additions in the forms of Joe Blanton and Greg Holland, there’s no question the Dodgers have enough bullpen firepower to find success with its existing corp. As there’s exactly 30 days remaining before pitchers and catchers show up for spring camp in Glendale, the Dodgers have only two left-handed hitting second base options that are anywhere near the big league level—Willie Calhoun, who hasn’t even gotten his feet wet at the Triple-A, and Jose Miguel Fernandez, a Cuban infielder who signed last week for $200,000 and probably hasn’t yet arrived stateside. In the meantime, Chase Utley is still lurking in the dark corners of the free agent market, while many fans of the Boys in Blue continue to wonder if he’ll be part of the squad in 2017.

The Dodgers avoided arbitration hearings for the tenth straight season after signing catcher Yasmani Grandal and pitchers Luis Avilan, Josh Fields and Alex Wood all to one-year deals on Friday, the team announced. Earlier in the week, Los Angeles agreed on a $1.125 million contract with Vidal Nuno — the lefty pitcher netted in the trade that sent catcher Carlos Ruiz to the Mariners in November.

With all the uncertainty surrounding the middle part of the Dodgers‘ bullpen heading into the 2017 campaign, there’s a trio of young relievers, Jacob Rhame, Joe Broussard and Ralston Cash, who are on the fringes of the big leagues and ready to get the call at any point in time. Yet hidden in the depths of the system at Double-A Tulsa, there’s another by the name of Josh Sborz, who has both the competitiveness and physical talent to climb the organizational ladder quickly and conceivably receive a promotion before the other three.
