I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess I could have made it easier on myself”

If any avid Dodgers fan would have predicted in April that the club’s primary outfield group would consist of Howie Kendrick, Joc Pederson and Josh Reddick come the first of August, that particular fan would probably have been ridiculed and eventually ostracized completely from their own individual Dodger community.

That ain’t nothing but ten cent

Pretty little thing let me light your

Monday I wrote a nice little piece about my thoughts on the trade deadline, that the Dodgers did pretty well, and ended it with, “Let’s go.” Well, the Dodgers went — and not in a direction any of us thought they would go.

Help me with this part
Do I hate you? Do I date you?
Do I got a dyslexic Heart?”

It’s only been three games since the second half of the season started, and we seemed to have run the gamut in terms of performances by our beloved Dodgers. A game where the offense explodes, lead by Chris Taylor. A game where the offense does nothing, yet is in the game the whole time thanks to stellar pitching, only to lose in extras. And a game were the pitching is not good, and the offense is not good, until the very end, when it is too little to late.

Summer, summer, summer
It’s like a merry go round”

After four torturous days without Dodgers baseball, it is here — the first day of the second half. The first half felt long and tenuous at times, so I thought I’d take a quick look back at what I think are the Top Five highlights.

It seems like it happens almost every year around this time — the front office crew of the Dodgers putting their heads together trying to decide whether the potentially positive traits around right-fielder Yasiel Puig outweigh those of the negative nature, and determining if the 25-year-old Cuban native fits into the long term plans of the club moving forward.

“Oh, yeah, it’s rollercoaster time
Lovin’ you is really wild
Oh, it?s just a love rollercoaster
Step right up and get your tickets!”

Sometimes, I suppose, it’s easy for us to forget how lucky we are. We get bogged down in the day to day minutia and only focus on the bad things happening to us. This happens with sports fandom also. It’s so easy to focus on all the things that are going wrong with your team, that you don’t see all the amazing things that are happening in front of you.

Many fans are wondering at what point the Dodgers will begin stirring the pot as the hot stove season quickly approaches, yet if the team can bring back a productive Yasiel Puig next week, and a healthy Brandon McCarthy, Hyun-jin Ryu and Andre Ethier sometime in July, the club may be in a position to transform the roster without even having to make a trade.

Part of the fun of doing a weekly baseball column is that so many things vary from week to week. Last week I was looking for optimistic things to write about. This week is a bit easier. The Dodgers‘ offensive and bullpen woes are still there, but a winning road trip capped off with win on Mother’s Day is always cause for celebration.
“I said it’s alright – You know it’s alright – I guess it’s all in my heart.” ~Page/Plant

Safe to say DodgerFam is feeling a little better this week. The Dodgers took two of three in each series against the Diamondbacks and Giants, moving to an 8-5 record and sole ownership of first place in the division. The bullpen, the subject of so much angst in the first week, and later losing the home opener, has not allowed a run in the last 14 innings. Howie Kendrick and Yasmani Grandal returned from the disabled list, and Enrique Hernandez went on a tear against Madison Bumgarner in a 7-3 win Friday night.
