Using your bullpen to pitch an entire game occasionally isn’t a completely bad idea, especially if your rotation is somewhat taxed and needs a break. If the Los Angeles Dodgers could somehow manage to maintain their pace of one clunker game followed by two to three good ones, well then they’d be in great shape at the end of the season.
The Dodgers just finished a road trip which took them to San Diego and Milwaukee. The first game of each series was not great, but they managed to scrape two hard fought wins in San Diego, and then cruise to another two wins in Milwaukee.

Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI and Clayton Kershaw threw six strong innings to propel the Los Angeles Dodgers to a victory on Sunday, securing a much-needed series win against a high-quality National League opponent.
The lone scar of the series was a 14-0 shellacking on Friday, a game in which the Los Angeles offense was completely dormant against veteran starter Drew Smyly.

The first time the Dodgers played the Diamondbacks this year in a four-game series in Los Angeles, it was a lack of offense that prevented the Dodgers from winning the series. In a four-game rematch in Arizona this time around, Los Angeles simply got beat on both sides of the ball.
Whether Arizona exposed a potential vulnerability in the Los Angeles pitching staff — or whether the Snakes were firing on all cylinders with their bats — it remains to be seen what type of team the Dodgers really are right now. Regardless, the Diamondbacks outscored the Dodgers 29-17 over the final three games to capture the three-games -to-one series victory.

Watching the Los Angeles Dodgers compete against division-rival Arizona in the 2023 opening series at home seemed almost like a nutshell of their past few entire seasons — the team simply could not produce offensively when it needed it most.
Although Los Angeles showed off their muscles offensively in Games 1 and 3 by scoring a combined 18 runs, the team only managed to put up a total of two runs in Games 2 and 4, spoiling spectacular season debuts by starting pitchers Dustin May and Noah Syndergaard.

Although the signing is a curious move, it’s not an impactful one, at least as far as money goes. While the team has yet to make the deal official at the time of this writing, reports suggest that Peralta’s contract will pay him a guaranteed $6.5 million with the possibility of reaching as high as $8 million with incentives.
