Seventy-Six Trombones
(Author’s note — I know that “Seventy Six Trombones” seems like an odd title for a post about baseball and clinching a division title. It’s actually a nod to Vin Scully‘s favorite musical, The Music Man. My friend Ron Ramos sent me a link to this article, which I had never read before, and this is my favorite quote from it: “One of my favorites, and I love so many, has to be ‘The Music Man,’ because it combines so many things about living in a small town, the barbershop harmony, the beautiful love songs … it has everything. I loved the play as well as the musical…..I guess my philosophy has always been to play something up-beat, a musical, while I’m driving to the park. Anything that’s full of beans, peppy. I like to get out of the car singing that last song.” And I don’t know about you, but I adore the thought of Vin humming and bouncing along to “Seventy Six Trombones” as he heads in the stadium.)

What Rich Hill Means to Dodgers Going Forward

Tempers were flaring once again among many fans of the Dodgers on Saturday night, this time with a large group showing sympathy for Rich Hill after being yanked during a quest at perfection, while another lot was steadfast in backing skipper Dave Roberts‘ choice in making the controversial decision to remove him. Social media was a mess — supporters of the club were deeply immersed in the conjecture, so much so that many overlooked the stellar performances of Joc Pederson and the Dodgers’ offense, which was a driving force in winning another key game in the battle to maintain the lead in the NL West.

Kazmir’s Latest Setback Hinders Dodgers’ Starting Rotation Plans

To say that Scott Kazmir‘s rehab start for Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening “didn’t go so well” would probably be a bit of an understatement.
Early reports from the clubhouse after the game indicated that Kazmir was suffering the same types of neck and rib cage pain that initially landed him on the disabled list last month. The 32-year-old southpaw was removed from the playoff opener against Nashville with just two outs in the first inning. During the struggle, Kazmir hit two batters, walked two more, and gave up a home run before making way to righty Lisalverto Bonilla. OKC would make an effort to battle back from the early deficit, but eventually fell to the Sounds, 10-7.
