Dodgers Make Small Moves at Trade Deadline

When the 2023 season started, fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers were underwhelmed with who made up the team. Now after the trade deadline, they also might feel underwhelmed about the moves that were, and more importantly, were not made.

If the Dodgers were still at full strength and not incredibly bitten by the injury bug, the Dodgers would not need to make a big splash at the trade deadline. But the team was very much in need of staring pitching.

Dodgers Roster: Exactly How Good Is the Team Offense?

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers looked sharp in the first two games coming back from the All-Star break against the New York Mets, they couldn’t seal the deal in the finale on Sunday. The bats slowed down after running into old friend Max Scherzer, and the team eventually fell in extras, 2-1.

Over the next few weeks, the summer trade deadline will dominate most of the baseball blogosphere. We’ve been talking a lot about it here, but it’s still tough to say whether Los Angeles will make any significant moves because of the organization’s reluctance to trade away any high-level talent.

Dodgers Roster: Thoughts on First Half of 2023 Season

When most fans typically digest the first half of an MLB season, it takes them a while to analyze all the components that landed their favorite team at whatever spot in the standings. With the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers, though, you can quickly boil the first half down to two factors — injuries and underperformance.

As long as we can remember — in the non-Frank McCourt days, anyway — the Dodgers have been among the Top 5 MLB clubs in payroll. However, aside from the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, none of those costly investments resulted in a World Championship. Regardless, at the 89-game mark of the 2023 campaign, the Dodgers have a 51-38 reco0rd and are tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for first place in the National League West.

Dodgers Show All Weaknesses in Latest Series Against Giants

Losing streaks happen — sometimes even long, horrific ones. But when a team clinches a playoff spot 10 straight seasons and has essentially controlled the National League West for a decade, fans begin getting impatient and overly frustrated when a club is at its worst.

There are so many things to digest about the 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers, and we’re not even at the halfway point of the season. Obviously, injuries have been a critical part in the way the season has played out so far, from Julio Urias’s hamstring issue and Dustin May’s elbow to Gavin Lux’s ACL injury to Max Muncy’s latest stint on the injured list.

Dodgers Welcome New York Yankees to Dodger Stadium

For the most part, the Los Angeles Dodgers keep plugging away. Plugging in players and pitchers when another has a slump, or has inexplicably imploded on the mound.

And yet, the team is still tied for first in the NL West with the (still!) productive Arizona Diamondbacks, tied for best record in the NL, and third in all of the major leagues.

Dodgers Look to Finish Road Trip Strong in Tampa Bay

Last week, we talked about how the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff was going to have a big test ahead of them on their current road trip. As with everything else this season, some unexpected things happened in that regard, good and bad.

The Dodgers started their trip in St. Louis, and lost the last three of that four game series. Clayton Kershaw, still dealing with his mother’s recent death, only lasted 3.2 in the finale of the series, one of the shortest outings of his entire career. Tony Gonsolin was the only one who allowed no runs that series. However, he only lasted 5.0 innings because his pitch count got too high in the process.

How Active Will Dodgers Be at 2023 MLB Trade Deadline?

At this point, it’s probably a given that the Los Angeles Dodgers will make at least a few moves at the 2023 MLB summer trade deadline. The big question, though, is whether the team will make a big splash having an immediate impact.

Several weeks ago, many fans felt that it could take a little time for the 2023 version of the Dodgers to develop. However, as the 50-game mark of the campaign approaches, it’s probably safe to say this is one of the most inconsistent teams we’ve seen in recent years. Although Los Angeles is barely holding on to first place in the NL West, it’s still hard to say how the rest of the field will shape up as the season progresses.

Thoughts on the Dodgers Season So Far

When the Los Angeles Dodgers would sputter in past seasons, I never really worried. Ever the eternal Dodgers optimist, I always knew they had enough talent to get through whatever team slump was happening and show what a strong team they were.

(This applied to the regular season only, obviously).

But this season is the first where I have seriously doubts about the team overall.

Dodgers News and Notes – Kershaw Gets Win 200, Depth Woes and More

We as Los Angeles Dodgers fans are so lucky to be watching greatness every five to six days and on Tuesday night, Clayton Kershaw showed us exactly why.

Kershaw turned in a vintage performance for his 200th career win, going 7.0 scoreless innings, striking out nine and walking none. After Jason Heyward bobbled a line drive to right field, allowing the batter to reach third on the very first at bat of the game, Kershaw proceeded to strike out the next three, stranding that runner. He didn’t allow anyone else past second the rest of the game.
