While starting pitcher Kenta Maeda was lying on the ground grimacing in pain after being hit by a line drive in Tuesday night’s game against the Diamondbacks, the initial thought that registered in the minds of many Dodgers‘ fans was the concern for the Japanese right-hander’s general well being.

However, after letting the situation digest and seeing that he needed assistance to leave the field, those same fans wondered who would be the next best starting pitcher to fill a rotation slot should Maeda need an extended period of time to heal.

Dodgers 2016 Draft: Highlighting the First Three Rounds

On what was a very busy first day for the Dodgers in the 2016 MLB Draft, the high point came when the club chose shortstop Gavin Lux with the 20th overall selection — the first of three choices in the initial round.

The pick marked the first time that the Dodgers selected a position player with their first overall selection since Corey Seager in 2012. Los Angeles has selected a pitcher with their first pick of the draft in 10 of the last 12 years.

Based on recent performances, the Double-A Tulsa pitching staff could easily stake a claim to being among the top rotations in the entire Texas League. The big four starters — Chase De Jong, Scott Barlow, Brock Stewart and Trevor Oaks — have each eclipsed the 30 innings pitched mark, and own a combined 2.21 ERA and 1.02 WHIP between them.

Dodgers Prospects: Urias Shines Again, Stewart Rising High

Friday evening was business as usual for Dodgers‘top pitching prospect Julio Urias. This time, the scouting director, the pitching coordinator or whomever dictates orders to OKC manager Bill Haselman, only let Urias work five full innings against the Salt Lake Bees. All three of the 19-year-old’s previous starts in the month of May lasted six full innings.
