It goes without saying that over the course of the season, it’s been both a delight and a privilege to sit down and chat with six of the most successful prospects in the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ organization. Two of the players we interviewed went on to make their big league debuts, two more zipped through three separate levels of the farm, while another earned Texas League Pitcher of the Year honors and is among the featured arms in the playoff rotation for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Kazmir’s Latest Setback Hinders Dodgers’ Starting Rotation Plans

To say that Scott Kazmir‘s rehab start for Oklahoma City on Wednesday evening “didn’t go so well” would probably be a bit of an understatement.

Early reports from the clubhouse after the game indicated that Kazmir was suffering the same types of neck and rib cage pain that initially landed him on the disabled list last month. The 32-year-old southpaw was removed from the playoff opener against Nashville with just two outs in the first inning. During the struggle, Kazmir hit two batters, walked two more, and gave up a home run before making way to righty Lisalverto Bonilla. OKC would make an effort to battle back from the early deficit, but eventually fell to the Sounds, 10-7.

Dodgers’ Rookies Admirably Filling Void in Starting Rotation

If there’s one department that has been inconsistently consistent for the Dodgers over the course of the 2016 season, it’s undoubtedly the starting pitching rotation.

It was only towards the end of last winter, just shortly after the club signed Scott Kazmir and Kenta Maeda, that many fans were calling for a trade of Alex Wood because of the rotation being overcrowded. Resident ace Clayton Kershaw would be the headliner while southpaw Brett Anderson brought up the rear. Sandwiched in between would be Kazmir and Maeda, along with lefty Hyun-jin Ryu, who, at the time, was throwing well and poised to join the rotation by Opening Day.

Dodgers Prospects: De León, De Jong Set to Make Respective Debuts

From the very first day the injury bug began biting the Dodgers‘ starting rotation early in the season, many fans have been chattering about a big league promotion for pitching prospect Jose De Leon. Now, after a long anticipated wait and just 27 games remaining on the regular season schedule, those same fans will get their wish as the 24-year-old righty is set to make his Dodgers debut in the series finale against the Padres on Sunday.

Dodgers Prospects: Trevor Oaks Shut Down for Season

Just days after Trevor Oaks was removed in the first inning of a scheduled start on Saturday against Colorado Springs with an apparent groin strain, the Los Angeles Dodgers determined the injury severe enough to shut down the righty pitching prospect for the remainder of the season.

Dodgers Prospects: Catching Up with Oklahoma City’s Trevor Oaks

The last time we had the opportunity to chat with 23-year-old pitching prospect Trevor Oaks, he was about one week removed from being promoted to Double-A Tulsa after beginning the year at High-A Rancho Cucamonga. Now, a few days less than four months later, Oaks finds himself atop of Triple-A Oklahoma City‘s starting rotation, and could be on the fast track to a well-deserved appearance in the bigs.
