Dodgers End Homestand on Positive Note, Prepare for Pirates

After an ugly stretch involving the club’s worst losing streak in recent years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have won five of their last six games thanks to some timely hitting and solid pitching against the Mets and Rockies.

Although the club’s current offensive output hasn’t been anywhere near the numbers it produced over the first several weeks of the season, the team seems to be doing just enough to put themselves in the winning column, albeit against some of the worst teams in the league.

Dodgers Roster: Who’s Hot and Who’s Not

Although it’s been right around two weeks since the beginning of the season for most MLB teams, more time has passed for the Los Angeles Dodgers due to the South Korea trip to open up the year. The Dodgers already have 16 games on the books and are already on their second go-around with division foe San Diego.

Overall, the infamous Dodger offense has lived up to its name for the most part, despite a select few bottom-of-the-order regulars struggling mightily.

Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 Predictions: SportsLine, ZiPS and More

Although the 2024 MLB regular season begins on March 28 for most teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres will get a head start on this year’s campaign under the world microscope with a series in Seoul on March 20 and 21.

This will be an interesting matchup, as the Dodgers went full-in to land Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and others, while the Padres dealt superstar Juan Soto to the Yankees, seemingly to avoid a payroll crunch.

Dodgers Take Series in Boston, Other Team Notes

After failing to cash in on several critical scoring opportunities in Saturday’s middle game, the Los Angeles Dodgers came up big in the finale on Sunday to defeat the Boston Red Sox 7-4 and win the weekend series two games to one.

MVP candidates Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman both had three hits apiece for the Dodgers, who moved to 80-49 and lead the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West by 12-1/2 games pending the results of Sunday’s later games.

Dodgers Shake Up Outfield Mix by Adding David Peralta

In a bit of surprising news on Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly signed free-agent outfielder David Peralta to a one-year deal, putting a wrench in many of the team’s pre-season roster predictions across the baseball blogosphere.

Although the signing is a curious move, it’s not an impactful one, at least as far as money goes. While the team has yet to make the deal official at the time of this writing, reports suggest that Peralta’s contract will pay him a guaranteed $6.5 million with the possibility of reaching as high as $8 million with incentives.

Dodgers Offense Continues to Gain Momentum

The Dodgers pitching staff still has the lowest ERA in the majors at 2.76 and has held opponents to a .213 batting average. But the Dodger offense is currently sixth best in the majors, just one point out of the top five. Having both the offense and pitching ranked that high has definitely aided to winning success.

Production From Muncy, Betts Could Take Dodgers’ Offense to Next Level

Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting at 10-3 with one of the MLB’s top records, there’s still plenty of room for improvement.

When the team signed former MVP Freddie Freeman not long before the 2022 regular season finally got underway, writers across the baseball blogosphere began talking about how potent the Los Angeles lineup might be. However, there have been a few cold bats — most notably the lumber of Max Muncy and Mookie Betts — that have relegated the club to the fifth-best hitting and the second-best run producing team in the majors.
