Dodgers End Homestand on Positive Note, Prepare for Pirates

After an ugly stretch involving the club’s worst losing streak in recent years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have won five of their last six games thanks to some timely hitting and solid pitching against the Mets and Rockies.

Although the club’s current offensive output hasn’t been anywhere near the numbers it produced over the first several weeks of the season, the team seems to be doing just enough to put themselves in the winning column, albeit against some of the worst teams in the league.

Dodgers Sweep Cardinals at Home, Prepare for Phillies to Finish Homestand

Chris Taylor went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Noah Syndergaard earned his first win of the season, propelling the Dodgers to a 6-3 home win on Sunday against the Cardinals and securing the series sweep.

Aside from Clayton Kershaw’s sparkling performance on Saturday, there really weren’t any major signs that the Dodgers are changing course from an average-performing team to an excellent one. The Cardinals fell to 10-19 on the season and fifth place in the NL Central, suggesting that the Los Angeles sweep isn’t as significant as some pundits make it out to be.

Dodgers Prospect Watch: A Closer Look at Gavin Stone

For as much as we discuss prospects on this site, one player we’ve yet to feature is righty pitcher Gavin Stone.

Several of our commenters have been talking about the Arkansas native for a while, even though he hasn’t really burst onto the scouting radar until this year. Stone has been making a name for himself by his ability to miss bats, as his 11.80 K/9 this season is one of the best in the organization.
