Dodgers Roster: Several Pros and Cons of Moving Matt Kemp

Picture this—it’s Saturday, October 4th, 2014. The Dodgers are tied with the St. Louis Cardinals 2-2 heading into the bottom of the 8th, in the second game of the National League Division Series. Matt Kemp, one of the most well-known Dodgers of this century, is walking to the plate. J.P. Howell is in the dugout, well aware of the two runs he’s given up, simultaneously reducing the Dodgers lead to 0. On a 2-1 count, three pitches into Pat Neshek’s appearance in the game, Kemp launches a monster home run to deep left field, right next to the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Are Rival Clubs Outmaneuvering the Dodgers this Winter?

Do Dodgers Really Need to Do Anything Else this Winter?

Theoretically, no. The Dodgers, the same team who almost won the World Series, are in fantastic shape. Looking solely at the Los Angeles roster, they don’t need to make any more additions. They have a great bullpen, a strong rotation, and a lineup capable of mass-producing runs. If this were last season, the Dodgers would have already won the West.

When Will Dodgers Join the Gerrit Cole Sweepstakes?

Back in December, it appeared as if the Yankees had agreed with the Pirates on a deal to acquire righty starter Gerrit Cole, however, those rumors eventually fizzled when both sides couldn’t see eye to eye on a return package. Several weeks later, a separate deal with the Astros looked to be imminent, yet despite those particular reports, the Cubs are apparently now in the running among who knows how many other clubs. And even though the Dodgers don’t necessarily need another front-line starter, it probably wouldn’t hurt the Los Angeles front office crew to exercise their due diligence and make a few phone calls.

But, building a competitive player roster is the first step of the process, and despite a few early signs from the Dodgers possibly staying quiet over the winter, Andrew Friedman and his troops have lately been busy on the phones in their quests for personnel upgrades.
