Last time we talked, I proposed that these first three series would do a lot to telling much about how the Los Angeles Dodgers’ second half of the season would go. So far, so good. Currently, the Dodgers are two games above both the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants for first place in the division.
The Dodgers started by taking two of three from the New York Mets, and then two of three from the AL East leading Orioles in Baltimore. (I was in attendance for two of those games. Highly recommend going to Camden Yards if you are able).

The Los Angeles Dodgers, maybe as much as any other team in the majors, has seen their pitching staff get repeatedly hit with injuries.
Overall, the Dodgers currently have 10 pitchers on the injured list. And now that Clayton Kershaw has landed there, that makes a clean sweep of all the starters to have some injury issue this season.

Freddie Freeman will be the starter at first base, Mookie Betts in the outfield, and J.D. Martinez will be the starting designated hitter.

Using your bullpen to pitch an entire game occasionally isn’t a completely bad idea, especially if your rotation is somewhat taxed and needs a break. However, when you count on your bullpen to throw two games in a hitter-friendly ballpark against one of the better offensive teams in the National League, you’re just asking for trouble.

Last week, we talked about how the Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff was going to have a big test ahead of them on their current road trip. As with everything else this season, some unexpected things happened in that regard, good and bad.
The Dodgers started their trip in St. Louis, and lost the last three of that four game series. Clayton Kershaw, still dealing with his mother’s recent death, only lasted 3.2 in the finale of the series, one of the shortest outings of his entire career. Tony Gonsolin was the only one who allowed no runs that series. However, he only lasted 5.0 innings because his pitch count got too high in the process.

The team was the last in the majors to play any American League teams, but finished their last home stand by taking two of three from the AL Central leading Minnesota Twins.
