While the MLB Winter Meetings have taken on an entirely new look this year because of health concerns surrounding the pandemic, there won’t be anything from preventing the Rule 5 Draft from being orchestrated as normal.
Ahead of the Wednesday evening deadline to protect qualified players from next month’s Rule 5 draft, the Dodgers announced today that they added righty pitcher Mitchell White, utility man Zach McKinstry and outfielder DJ Peters to the 40-man roster.
While we have had several discussions so far this offseason regarding players that could be added to the Dodgers‘ 40-man roster to avoid being lost in this year’s Rule 5 draft, the deadline has finally arrived.
While many fans identify baseball’s Winter Meetings as a hotbed for trades and potential free agent signings, few realize that the event also features the annual Rule 5 Draft, which is held on the final day of the gathering.
If the MLB Winter Meetings do indeed begin as scheduled this Sunday in Maryland, the Dodgers may very well decide to make a number of adjustments on the 40-man roster, especially if the management crew wishes to participate in the Rule 5 draft on the final day of the meetings.
