The Dodgers announced on Friday afternoon that they have added four players to the organization’s 40-man roster ahead of next month’s Rule 5 draft. The players added include right-handed pitchers Gerardo Carrillo, Andre Jackson and Edwin Uceta, in addition to OF Zach Reks.
Ahead of the Wednesday evening deadline to protect qualified players from next month’s Rule 5 draft, the Dodgers announced today that they added righty pitcher Mitchell White, utility man Zach McKinstry and outfielder DJ Peters to the 40-man roster.
While we have had several discussions so far this offseason regarding players that could be added to the Dodgers‘ 40-man roster to avoid being lost in this year’s Rule 5 draft, the deadline has finally arrived.
Tuesday is the deadline for MLB teams to decide which prospects to protect from the Rule 5 draft, and the Dodgers have some decisions to make, perhaps more than in recent years.
While many fans identify baseball’s Winter Meetings as a hotbed for trades and potential free agent signings, few realize that the event also features the annual Rule 5 Draft, which is held on the final day of the gathering.

If the MLB Winter Meetings do indeed begin as scheduled this Sunday in Maryland, the Dodgers may very well decide to make a number of adjustments on the 40-man roster, especially if the management crew wishes to participate in the Rule 5 draft on the final day of the meetings.
