After nearly two years away from the mound, Shohei Ohtani is finally getting closer to pitching at the major league level again. The question isn’t whether he can still dominate hitters — it’s whether the Los Angeles Dodgers actually need (or want) him to.
Ohtani recently took a significant step forward by throwing 22 pitches to five batters in a simulated game before the team’s matchup with the New York Mets last week, marking his first time facing hitters off a mound since his elbow surgery in September 2023. That was before he threw two innings of live batting practice to Los Angeles minor league batters before Saturday’s middle game against the Yankees.

The Los Angeles Dodgers may soon be welcoming back a familiar face to their starting rotation. Clayton Kershaw, working his way back from offseason knee and toe surgeries, is scheduled to make another Triple-A rehab start on Sunday that could be his final tune-up before rejoining the major league club.

According to a team announcement on Saturday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers have recalled infielder Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City while placing utility man Tommy Edman on the 10-day injured list with right ankle inflammation. The IL placement for Edman is retroactive to April 30, meaning he could potentially return to action in a week if his recovery progresses well.

After one of the most sizzling starts in recent team history, the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped two games to the Philadelphia Philles in a three-game weekend set, falling to 9-2 on the year amid an East Coast road trip.
Sunday’s finale was a back-and-forth battle that saw the Dodgers jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first frame after Teoscar Hernandez hit his first long ball of the afternoon. The biggest blow came after Glasnow was replaced by lefty Alex Vesia, who promptly surrendered a grand slam to outfielder Nick Castellanos, capping off a six-run frame for Philadelphia.
