Dodgers Prospect Watch: Michael Busch Still Producing at Triple-A Oklahoma City

Until recently, the last week of August was a time when we’d anticipate a handful of prospects joining the major league team to get their feet wet and see how they react to playing at the highest possible level.

However, with the most recent roster rule changes, teams only expand to 28 players on September 1 through the end of the regular season, limiting teams significantly on their additions over previous seasons.

2022 MLB Draft: Dodgers Announce Day 2 Selections

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced their eight selections from the second day of the 2022 Draft on Monday afternoon, picking University of Central Florida shortstop Alex Freeland (third round, 105th pick), Virginia Tech outfielder Nick Biddison (fourth round, 135th pick), Arizona State University infielder Sean McLain (fifth round, 165th pick), P27 Academy shortstop Logan Wagner (sixth round, 195th pick), St. Mary’s College infielder Christopher Campos (seventh round, 225th pick), Louisiana Tech second baseman Taylor Young (eighth round, 255th pick), University of Virginia left-handed pitcher Brandon Neeck (ninth round, 285th pick), and Westmount College catcher Simon Reid (tenth round, 315th pick).

Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller and Miguel Vargas Selected to Participate in MLB Futures Game

Three of the organization’s highest-ranking prospects will be making their Dodger Stadium debuts much sooner than anticipated.

Although Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller and Miguel Vargas won’t be competing at the major league level, they’ll be representing the Dodgers in the MLB Futures Game on July 16 as part of this year’s All-Star extravaganza.

Dodgers Prospect Watch: A Closer Look at Gavin Stone

For as much as we discuss prospects on this site, one player we’ve yet to feature is righty pitcher Gavin Stone.

Several of our commenters have been talking about the Arkansas native for a while, even though he hasn’t really burst onto the scouting radar until this year. Stone has been making a name for himself by his ability to miss bats, as his 11.80 K/9 this season is one of the best in the organization.

Dodgers Prospect Watch: Keeping an Eye on Diego Cartaya

After starting the 2022 season with Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, 20-year-old catcher Diego Cartaya continues his climb to the majors with a recent promotion to High-A Great Lakes.

Catcher is one of those interesting spots for the Dodgers because they’ve had one of the healthiest stocks of players after being so barren at the position for nearly a decade. Even after dealing Keibert Ruiz to the nationals in the Max Scherzer deal and Connor Wong to the Red Sox in the Mookie Betts trade, Los Angeles is seemingly sitting pretty for the foreseeable future.

Which Pitching Prospect Will Emerge First for Dodgers?

So far this season, we have already seen 25 different pitchers appear for the Los Angeles Dodgers in some capacity — 26 if you count Hanser Alberto’s outing on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Last year, there were 39 pitchers to throw for the Dodgers, indicating that fans could be in store for even more new faces as the 2022 season progresses.

Dodgers Prospect Watch: A Closer Look at Michael Grove

As the pitching carousel continues to turn for the Los Angeles Dodgers, another generation of players are getting their chances on the big-league stage.

Last week, fans had the chance to see 24-year-old righty Ryan Pepiot throw in the majors for the first time. On Sunday in the series finale against the Phillies, they’ll be able to see 25-year-old right-hander Michael Grove.

Michael Busch Making Noise at Double-A Tulsa

24-year-old second baseman Michael Busch has gotten off to his hottest start as a professional.

Through his first 20 games at Double-A Tulsa this year, the lefty-hitting Minnesota native is slashing an impressive .286/.446/.671 with eight homers, three doubles and 20 RBI. What’s even more impressive is that he’s already drawn 19 walks, indicating a growing patience at the plate after punching out 129 times last year.
