Uh Oh, It’s Magic

After four torturous days without Dodgers baseball, it is here — the first day of the second half. The first half felt long and tenuous at times, so I thought I’d take a quick look back at what I think are the Top Five highlights.

Having been mired in a nasty slump for the entirety of the season’s first half, catcher Yasmani Grandal‘s bat came through in a big way on Friday night, rescuing the Dodgers from a three-game losing streak and propelling the club to a 10-6 win against the Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers’ Sputtering Offense Wastes More Quality Pitching

When the majority of avid Dodgers fans saw Wednesday evening’s lineup for the rubber game against the Rockies, many couldn’t help but feel a bit of disappointment. Not only did manager Dave Roberts decide to award a player or two a much deserved day off, he did it with a bang — permitting Chase Utley, Corey Seager, Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal to ride the pine with a travel day already scheduled for Thursday.

Despite the very noticeable smile from Corey Seager after the Dodgers‘ 4-2 victory over the Braves on Friday night, the young shortstop seemed more concerned with the momentum of his team instead of any personal accolades with the lumber.

You’re So Vain

You’re so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You’re so vain
I’ll bet you think this song is about you
Don’t you? Don’t you?

As a fan, sometimes it feels as though the national media may be against your team. It really seemed that the ESPN Sunday Night game was very Cardinals heavy, and not so much about the Dodgers. I decided to go back through the game and time how much each team, and subsequent filler, were talked about.

Nobody Does It Better

“Nobody does it better
Makes me feel sad for the rest
Nobody does it half as good as you
Baby you’re the best”

A little something different on the blog tonight. I will be doing a play-by-play of sorts, following the game along from my point of view and that of DodgerFam on Twitter.

It only took Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers (mostly Kershaw) two hours and seven minutes to halt a disastrous six game losing streak on Sunday afternoon, while at the same time preventing the Padres from completing the three game sweep in Los Angeles.

Let’s Go Crazy

Let’s go crazy
Let’s get nuts
Let’s look for the purple banana
‘Til they put us in the truck, let’s go!

(Be honest, you didn’t know those were the words either)

Of course in our musical tag line we had to use a Prince song. The way this road trip ended, the logical choice was Let’s Go Crazy. (I’m really happy I didn’t have to use I Hate U). Quite a few crazy things happened on this road trip, from the horrid conditions of Turner Field, to comebacks, to an eephus pitch, to insane flips and catches and throws.

Somewhere down the path of the 2016 season, the Dodgers may look back on Sunday’s 12-10 win at Coors Field and view it as a defining moment in regards to establishing momentum, while seeing plenty of both heart and fortitude for the first time during the young campaign.

Clayton Kershaw surprised everyone on Thursday morning with what appeared to be an eephus pitch, floating the ball home at a whopping 46 MPH to Braves’ catcher Tyler Flowers in the bottom of the fourth inning of the series finale.

Without any knowledge of Kershaw’s intent, Orel Hershiser, SportsNet LA’s color analyst, tried his best to explain what he saw after the pitch was thrown.
