On Tuesday, the American Lung Association will begin its promotion of a huge March charity event, Champions Unite, which is a live broadcast featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes appearances by Hollywood celebrities and MLB players.

The celebrity participants will be showcasing their skills in a fun and heartwarming talent show.

Funds raised at the event will support lung health for all, including overcoming COVID-19, tobacco control, youth anti-vaping, and clean air—because when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.

Representing the Dodgers in the event are relief pitcher Kenley Jansen and outfielder AJ Pollock, in addition to broadcaster and legendary pitcher Orel Hershiser.

Former Dodger outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr. will also participate in the extravaganza, which is slated to take place on Thursday, March 25.

Both Jansen and Pollock endured their own battles with COVID-19 in the days preceding the start of the Dodgers’ 2020 World Championship season.

Pollock’s bout with the coronavirus was especially difficult, as he was forced to quarantine himself just months after the premature birth of his daughter, Maddi.

Fans are encouraged to sign up at ALAChamiopnsUnite.com to receive newsletter updates and a chance to win a video chat with Gwynn, Jr. himself.

The winner will be chosen at random on Wednesday, March 24.

The pre-show for the fundraising event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Pacific time. All the main action is slated to start at 6:00 p.m.

In the meantime, please follow the American Lung Association in California on Twitter at @californialung for the latest news surrounding the event, including daily trivia contests and other related activities.

All of us here at TBPC are very proud to help in this worthy cause.

  1. McGee goes to the Giants on a one year deal. JT Chargois signs with the Mariners, minor league deal. He was in Japan last season. Dodgers have interest in Marlins 1B/OF, Garret Cooper per MLB News and Rumors. Pitchers and catchers report on the 17th. First full squad workout is the 23rd. Will JT be there>>>> NO ONE KNOWS>

  2. Pollock and Jansen are good guys. I appreciate it when players take time to support charitable causes. Dodger players have a history of community support.
I truly wish I could get vaccinated as I would be in the stands at Camelback but it’s a mess here in AZ. I love watching the young prospects compete for attention and a roster spot. Love to see Amaya, Busch, Hoese, etc along with the pitchers Jackson. Periot, Uceta, Carrillo, Gray, White, etc.
IF JT does not sign I wonder if they will think about bringing one of the young guys up like Busch, Hoese, or Vargas?
As Jeff D reminded me the roster is smaller this year so it’s going to be very competitive for those last couple of roster spots. Does Beaty make it?
