The Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday morning officially activated infielder Matt Beaty from the 10-day injured list and placed infielder Corey Seager on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to June 12, with left hamstring strain.

The 26-year-old Beaty appeared in 17 games for the Dodgers before being sidelined with a left hip flexor strain on June 3. He was batting .286 (12-for-42) with seven RBI. The former Belmont Bruin made two rehab starts for High-A affiliate Rancho Cucamonga, recording two doubles in seven tries for the Quakes.

Seager, 25, left the game in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday night. Prior to being sidelined, the infielder had recorded a season-best nine-game hitting streak, in which he was hitting .459 (17-for-37) with seven doubles, one homer and nine RBI. On the campaign, the North Carolina native is hitting .278 (66-for-237) with 21 doubles, eight homers and 38 RBI.

According to Bill Plunkett of the OC Register, the MRI administered to Seager showed Grade 1-2 strain. There’s no official timetable, as his eventual return will depend on how Seager progresses through his recovery. However, injuries of similar natures generally linger around a four to six week time frame.

Many reports say that Chris Taylor is expected to get the lion’s share of playing time at shortstop during Seager’s absence.

Thursday night’s lineup vs. Cubs:

  • Hernandez LF
  • Turner 3B
  • Freese 1B
  • Bellinger RF
  • Taylor SS
  • Muncy 2B
  • Verdugo CF
  • Barnes C
  • Kershaw P

  1. Beatty at least is one of those guys who grinds out at bats, and he can play first and put Muncy at second when he plays so the lineup is a little deeper. Garlick cannot even get a spot start against a lefty. Do not think the team really has much faith in him. Kike leading off. I smell an ofer.

      1. Yeah, for once I did. That was a stinker last night. snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Funny thing is, as soon as Jansen hit Bryant, I knew he would serve up a fat one to Rizzo. That’s been his MO the last couple of years. But throwing balls on the first 2 pitches to Rizzo was the coup de gras. Had to throw a strike and BOOM, there it is. Still had a shot with the 3 boomers in the lineup coming up, Turner, Belli and Muncy. Nope. Turner goes down meekly, Belli does the same, Muncy walks, and Beatty strikes out on a pitch a snake could not have hit. Offense without Seager is no where near as potent. Kike makes an error and also a huge base running blunder that probably cost them the game.
