As the Dodgers head into their eight game east coast road trip, they will be taking a new face along for the ride. On Friday, the Dodgers added Kyle Garlick to the active roster along with Matt Beaty while placing Kenta Maeda on the 10-day IL.

After Maeda’s masterful handling of the Padres on Wednesday, when he threw 6.2 scoreless innings and drove in both the Dodgers’ runs, his going to the IL was a little bit of a surprise. But he fouled a pitch off his thigh in his last at-bat, and is taking some rest as a precaution.

Beaty has been with the team once previously this season, where he went 2-for-3 as a pinch hitter in a three-game stint against the Giants in San Francisco. The left-handed utility player was batting .299 with the Oklahoma City Dodgers.

At age 27, Garlick will be a little older than the average rookie. The Dodgers drafted the outfielder in the 28th round of the 2015 MLB draft out of Cal Poly Pamona. He joined the Oklahoma City Dodgers last season, and was slashing .280/.375/.627/1.002 so far this season. He has spilt his time pretty equally between left and right field. As there were two empty spots on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, no corresponding move was made for the selection of Garlick’s contract.

As previously stated, the Dodgers are embarking on an eight game, 10 day road trip where they will finish their season series with the Cincinnati Reds, head to Tampa Bay for a quick two game series with the Rays, and ending with a weekend series in Pittsburgh.

The Matt Kemp-less Reds currently sit at 20-24, 6.5 games back in the NL Central. They won their last two games against the Central leading Chicago Cubs.

The Dodger bats will face all right handed starting pitching from the Reds. Friday night’s matchup will see Rich Hill try to get his first win of the season when he takes on Anthony Deslafani, who is 2-1 on the season with a 4.17 ERA and 46 strikeouts.

Saturday, Walker Buehler will take the mound at the closest stadium to him growing up. He will face off against Tyler Mahle, who is 0-5 in eight games with a 3.97 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Sunday’s matinee with be Hyun-Jin Ryu and Tanner Roark, who through nine games has a 3-2 record and a 3.50 ERA with 43 strikeouts.

Monday will be an off day while the Dodgers travel to Tampa Bay. Thursday will also be an off day as the team travels to Pittsburgh. The Dodgers will then only have two further days off before the All-Star game.

  1. When Hill is spotting that fastball where he wants he’s hard to beat because that curveball is just plain nasty. Even with a shitty bullpen we are still the best team in baseball by record, just think how good we would be if we had even one more reliable bullpen arm. Cody Bellinger is hitting .404 and it’s almost June folks. That’s beyond special. He is on his way to a .350 40HR season and quite possible MVP.

  2. Alex If you want a sh…….y bullpen check out Washington’s! Ours is far from sh…..y. Bullpens in all of MLB are struggling this year. Ours has actually been better than average and trending in the right direction. With the starters going deeper into games it keeps pen fresher and we’re seeing better results!

  3. Garlick assigned # 41. They must think he has something. Usually callups get numbers in the 70’s. Nice to not have to listen to boring Joe. Neverett, while he may not be the most articulate guy, is sure less monotone than Davis.
