Travis, we hardly knew ye.
The 30-year-old catcher had one at-bat with the Dodgers. It came Thursday night as a pinch hitter against the Washington Nationals, in which he grounded out. d’Arnaud, a Lakewood High School alumnus, had previously been with the New York Mets but was released from his contract last week. The Rays have seen two of their catchers hit the disabled list, leading them to look for a full-in catcher.
The motive for the Dodgers acquiring d’Arnaud off waivers initially still remains completely unclear.
Rocky Gale was recalled from Oklahoma City to fill the roster spot. He has previously appeared in four games for the Dodgers so far this season, going only 2-for-14 with seven strikeouts.
Today the Dodgers also traded outfielder Paulo Orlando to the Chicago White Sox for additional cash considerations. Orlando departed from OKC where he had a .211 batting average and .394 slugging.
At the end of the day, at least there’s a little more money in the bank account.
